Practice open to see Dr Cole’s artwork this weekend

The Hereward Surgery will become a temporary art gallery this weekend as Dr Clive Cole is exhibiting artwork as part of the Artists Open Houses in Bourne.

The practice will be open from noon until 5pm this Saturday and noon to 4.30 this Sunday, with the waiting area transformed into a mini studio, showcasing Dr Cole’s work, examples of which will be available to purchase, and with space for him to perform demonstrations

It is the first time that the Artists Open Houses event has taken place, with a variety of artists displaying artwork in public spaces and their private homes. The exhibit notes states: ‘Clive likes to produce different types of art – drawing / pastel / acrylic canvases, and has discovered airbrushing with vivid inks and loves to get lost in whimsical and imaginative illustrations. Technically planning how to use stencils, free hand templates and shields to create final pieces from his sketches gives him a sense of control, and then seeing how the painting develops, grows or fails, is its own adventure.’

Dr Cole said: ‘I have always like painting generally but have so little time for it. I have not had formal training, am still learning and have been using airbrushing for a couple of years. Recently I was asked to do a demonstration at a local comic con so I sat and painted all day. I have been asked along to the forthcoming Corby comic con to produce sci-fi pieces. I like to tackle a range of subjects from pets to illustrations and architectural themes.
‘It was fantastic to be selected as one of the artists in this inaugural event at Bourne. There are 13 artists who are showing their work, either this or next weekend or both. We are also using the surgery space to showcase local well-being art works from the social prescribing / art therapy / Don't Lose Hope community teams and we will also be promoting the new Well-being Map of Bourne.’

The Wellbeing Map features places that local people have nominated as being good for their mental wellbeing, whether that is by meeting other people or else spending time in nature. It was designed by Sam Roddan of Art Pop Up, in conjunction with Don’t Lose Hope. Locations on the map include the Old Town Hall on North Street, the Wellhead Park and Memorial Gardens, Bourne Wood and the Elsea Park Community Centre. The map is free and available from different community hubs in the area.
